Located at the busy corner of Beechwood Avenue and Crichton Street in Ottawa’s tony New Edinburgh community, the flagship location for the Royal Oak is envisaged as a lively neighbourhood gathering spot. In addition to the two-storey urban pub, the project includes an expansive local pharmacy. One of the standout features of the new building is the restored art deco glass-block tower that dates back to the original building’s days as a cinema, a touchstone that Omni’s experts painstakingly refurbished, adding LED lighting so it glows at night.
Omni Construction Services demolished the existing one-storey restaurant to the footings before rebuilding it from the ground up and adding a full second storey. They also excavated and expanded the basement, shoring up the foundations, lowering the sanitary lines, and installing mechanical systems for the building. They then added washrooms, as well as dry storage and freezer space for the pub. During this unique build, the Omni team oversaw the complete construction process, from the assembly of the steel structure, underpinning, roof, windows, doors, and concrete work to interior details such as framing, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.
