One of Ottawa’s original thoroughfares, Elgin Street remains a thriving business area, lined on both sides with an array of small businesses, retail outlets, restaurants, and bars. Many of the old brick buildings remain, adding to the charm of the street but needing increasingly expert upkeep as they age. Omni Construction Services was called when the owner of 342-346 Elgin Street determined that the building was structurally unsound and needed to be reinforced.
Omni Construction Services stepped in to shore up the aging two-story building, preserving the structure and readying it for future commercial tenants. The four-month renewal included the demolition of the walls and ceilings, the removal of asbestos, and the installation of new plumbing and electrical. Under an engineer’s direction, Omni’s contractors completed new structural support beams, pillars, and joists, then rebuilt fire-rated demising walls and ceilings and reinstalled fire-alarm systems. The owner has been using Omni for many years, trusting in its experts to manage complex projects successfully and on time. This trust led the owner to recommend that future tenants hire Omni for refits to ensure they’re handled meticulously and effectively. Within the extended building, both Quickie Convenience Store and Pirho Grill have chosen Omni to undertake their refits. The owners of Quickie, which is now open, are well pleased with the quality workmanship and on-time delivery of the space. The Pirho retrofits are scheduled to be completed by the end of April.
